Yesterday’s News
One interesting observation across the six or so months since I started this The Comic$ Crowd project: funds raised does not always correlate strongly with quality of the actual comic being crowdfunded. The launches over the last few days offer good evidence of that, as those that garnered “Comic I Like” status have a combined 23 backers and $927 raised. That’s…not much…but that doesn’t preclude those projects from being the most promising drops of the weekend. I think you may agree.
First, however, let’s look at the more popular projects that did not make the cut to recommended status:
Pin-Up Pete - A Dating Odyssey is not a comic but a pinup book. Nice project but not something I’ll cover here. Bad Habit Streetwear Comic proffers a “comic book” that evinces the vibe of there clothing brand (that’s a new one), but it shows none of the attributes of a comic: no cover, interior art or story synopsis.
Konkret Comics 2025 Edition Graphic Novels shows some terrific covers, but not one line of interior, sequential art. How can I make an informed backing decision without knowing what the art looks like?
There were a few projects that evidence the necessary components of a comic but just don’t convince me that they’re as good as the best of the weekend:
Taste of Cherry & Deep Inside Cherry - by Larry Welz - Vintage porn comic with - of course - the “Projects We Love” tag.
