Yesterday’s News
The flagging NSFW side of the Kickstarter Comics category punched back with a vengeance on Tuesday, comprising 25% of the 20 launches for the busiest day of every week. Unfortunately, none of those two-dimensional titty factories measure up to some of the story-driven, thoughtfully executed erotic comics we’ve seen launch recently. This moderate resurgence was inevitable, and don’t be surprised if it continues on into February. Here’s what dropped in NSFW-land on Tuesday:
THE ESCORT #1 - a spicy action thriller from Cheeky Comics - not up to the usual Cheeky Comics standards of high-level art and intriguing story to complement the nude cover gallery
ROUGH STUFF #1 - a NSFW Comic - no story info for what appears to be a comic featuring mythological bestiality porn, with cover art depicting bound and gagged women at the sexual mercy of erect minotaurs, for example; this sort of gross cover presentation of females disempowered and completely vulnerable before male threats - or their mythological surrogates - is just ugly and is polluting the Kickstarter Comics category too often lately.
Sister Mercy in HELL!!! - no interior art samples and very little story info
Also launched were a couple of interesting art books that are not actually comics:
These comics dropped on Tuesday, too, but, in turn, they dropped the ball by excluding evidence that they include some very important aspects of actual comics:
Seron: Issue #0 - no cover image
Monkey Peak Hardcover Volume 4 English Edition - very little information on story
We Suck at Comics: Volume 2 - Coloring Outside the Lines - no story info or discernible cover image
EYRIE Magazine #28 - no info on stories or creators
Bullet Adventures 1-7: FUN capes ACTION with FAMILY dynamics - very little information on story
Out of 20 total launches, Tuesday offered up only a couple of transcendent comics among the whole bunch, but these below came close to making the cut for a full recommendation, and one or more may interest you, despite not capturing me:
