Yesterday’s News
Yep, there were three NSFW drops in the Kickstarter Comics category on Wednesday, and every one of them gets the “Comic I Like” tag. You’ll see why below, but, first, a cursory glimpse at the two AI-generated campaigns that launched yesterday. These feature the usual hallmarks of empty phishing (I guess that’s what they’re doing?) projects by first-time creators who never backed another campaign. Any artwork (if any is shown) is obviously AI-generated, as is the formulaic, listless wall of text that comes with it. Here they are:
By the way, the backer community is definitely aware of these scam campaigns, as they usually show zero pledges, so these continued incursions onto the platform are a bit baffling.
There were a couple of sci-fi offerings held back a little by the artwork, though both may suit your tastes where they didn’t suit mine. Bounty bills itself repeatedly as “Star Wars meets the Boys”, which, again, isn’t a selling point for me, but may be for you, so take a look.
The coloring on The Audacity Graphic Novel honestly exacerbated a headache that greeted me when I awoke this morning. It’s LOUD. That, coupled with the absence of a cover image, prevented more of a recommendation from me.
Comics I Like
I know I bitch and moan a lot about the sorry state of NSFW comics on Kickstarter. There are too many. They don’t care about story or sequential art. They’re just chasing the money. I stand by all these assertions.
HOWEVA, serendipity brought us 3 amazing NSFW launches yesterday, each of which absolutely brings fun and interesting stories to the table, along with high-quality sequential art. These are the kinds of comics that can be appreciated by grown folks seeking out fun stories that happen to be mature in nature and include in-context, subject-relevant nudity and sexual situations, and, so, appeal to an audience beyond the titty cover collectors.

The usual stellar cover art & design from Pat Shand & Company
Simply great interior art, color & composition
The gold standard for story-driven NSFW comics in the crowdfunding arena
I also need to give Pat Shand and his crew credit for including a project progress tracker on the Kickstarter campaign page. Maybe it’s been there before, and I just missed it, but it links to a spreadsheet detailing production and shipping progress for each of their campaigns. While I still have concerns about the space super-creators occupy within the search function and within the disposable income of the backer community, this kind of transparency is admirable and should be duplicated by other creators with multiple outstanding crowdfunding campaigns.
Thanks for the shoutout! Really appreciate it and hope people enjoy it.
I'm glad the idea of story-forward books, NSFW or not, are gaining traction over the palette-swapped A-Z cover campaigns.
