As I daily scour the Kickstarter search function to review and analyze each and every project launched in the Comics category, I discover some real stinkers, lots of campaigns without one pixel of art (when comics, by definition, consist of art) or with non-sequential art generated by AI or with art on the interior that’s of suspiciously lower quality than that on the covers.
Mark my words… it’s going to get double funded. Because it’s going to tickle the funny bone of writers who cannot afford any artists. Maybe a writer who feels bad (ha) about using AI. The narcissistic bar has been raised.
Yeah that campaign is… something. I do find I like lo-fi style comics when done by people with talent (Mike Bennett’s crayon colored books on indyplanet come to mind for amazingly zany and high quality, he was a former animator on Family Guy, but done with materials usually associated to lack quality) but these aren’t even great designs, execution, or well anything.
Yeah, 100% agree. There's so much room for creativity and telling great stories across an array of art and narrative styles, and it's always cool to see a creator use a minimalist or intentionally - as you refer to it - lo-fi style and wow me with what magic they can do with it. This particular project, however, was just the lowest of the low and offered nothing of value. Thanks for your comments!
Honestly it was early enough my brain blanked on “minimalist” so I co-opted the extreme metal vernacular. Also, thanks for the highlighting of books each week, your efforts have led me to some very interesting projects that would be buried in the Kickstarter algorithm noise. I mean, my debit card hates it but I appreciate it.
That campaign doesn’t even have rewards!
Yet…APPROVED.
🤦🏻♂️

That's great to hear! Mission accomplished. I appreciate the feedback and kind words.
